Deadline Date:

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to USA, Canada, and International researchers for medical research projects. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full proposal. The purpose of this program is to facilitate improvements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease. Applications from underrepresented minority investigators and/or applications that focus on investigating disparities in patients with congenital heart disease are strongly encouraged.

The Children’s Heart Foundation’s Independent Grant Awards are intended to fund research that directly impacts patients living with congenital heart disease, over the course of their lifetime. The Foundation seeks to support investigations in clinical cardiology, including surgical and interventional techniques, as well as translational research and population science.

The Foundation’s primary focus is on funding research in patients born with structural congenital heart disease.  The Foundation also supports research in fetuses/patients with congenital complete heart block, and investigations focused on the evaluation and treatment of cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias in patients with underlying CHD, and research on pediatric heart transplantation.

The focus areas for CHD research include but are not limited to:

  • Genetics
  • Maternal environment and modifiable disease impact on fetuses with CHD
  • Fetal diagnosis and intervention
  • Pharmacology
  • Devices and procedural research (cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery)
  • Neurodevelopmental and functional outcomes
  • Life-long care of adults with CHDs
  • Technological development and advancements
  • Quality improvement
  • Policy regarding delivery of care, coverage, and access
  • Health Disparities

Estimated Size of Grant:

Independent Research Awards will fund up to $100,000 per year for two (2) years.

Term of Contract:

Two (2) years

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Physician and non-physician researchers from other disciplines, including nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, anesthesiologists, PhDs, MPHs and clinicians and/or researchers from non-cardiac specialties, are encouraged to apply.

The Foundation strongly encourages applications from underrepresented minority investigators.

Traditionally, the Foundation has not funded research on acquired heart disease (e.g., Kawasaki disease, rheumatic fever) or preventive cardiology (e.g., hyperlipidemia or hypertension in children).

Pre-Application Information:

In contrast to prior years when a full application was initially required, researchers seeking funding must now submit an initial Letter of Intent (LOI). The Children’s Heart Foundation made this change to reduce the initial time and effort required by applicants, their collaborators, and administrative research staff to apply for funding.

The LOIs are due on April 15, 2021. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application no later than May 31, 2021.

Only one application may be submitted, per PI, during each Independent Grant Award cycle.
