Grants of up to $1,000 to Chicago, Illinois park partner organizations and park advisory councils to support the stewardship and programming of local parks. Funding may be requested for a broad range of purposes, including supplies, programs, events, and beautification. This grant is intended to help jump-start park-related programs.

Examples of previously funded projects include gardens, tree plantings, sports equipment, community concerts, art/sculpture projects, programming, etc.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Friends of the Parks provides monetary grants up to a maximum of $1,000 per application.

Term of Contract:

Funds are to be used in 2018.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

A group must be either a park advisory council or another park partner organization who stewards a local park. Park partner organizations must have annual budgets no larger than $500,000 to be considered.

1. Projects must be located within a Chicago Park District park.
2. Applicants must represent a PAC or park partner organization.
3. Applicants must demonstrate that their project has the support of the Chicago Park District via at least one letter of support from the Park Supervisor, unless otherwise exempt from this need/
4. Previous award winners (maximum 5 years prior) must have completed all required grant reports.

Requests for funds to be used for capital improvement projects will not be considered. Capital improvements are expenditures related to the acquisition, expansion or renovation of some segment of a park’s infrastructure (e.g. tennis courts, playgrounds).

Pre-proposal Conference:

FOTP has added a Seed Grant Information Session, which will provide an overview of the grant program and review basic best-practices of grant writing that can be applied to any application.

Join FOTP on Wednesday, February 21st for the Seed Grant Information Session at the FOTP office.

Pre-Application Information:

The 2018 Seed Grant application is open and is due by 5:00 PM on Friday, March 9, 2018 (extended from Friday, February 2, 2018).

Grant funds are distributed to Seed Grant recipients in March.
