Grants of up to $15,000 to Illinois and Iowa nonprofits and government agencies in eligible counties to improve their ability to deliver services. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. Funding is intended to help nonprofits increase their core capacities to carry out their missions. Eligible organizations must be located in or serve residents of Rock Island County, Illinois and Scott County, Iowa. The Foundation's focus areas include health and human services, education, the arts, the environment, youth services, social services, as well as other charitable fields.

The grant program focuses on capacity-building projects that improve an identified area of organizational capacity, including (but not limited to) collaboration, communications, data management, equity, evaluation, financial management, fund development, governance, leadership, mission & strategy or program delivery.

Applications must be for one of the following eligible capacity-building activities:

  • Strategic planning
  • Board training and education
  • Staff training
  • Succession planning
  • Critical equipment
  • Technology/software
  • Other assessment, consulting, or facilitation that improves an identified area of organizational capacity.

Grants are available for up to $15,000.

Term of Contract:

The grantee may request that the amount awarded be paid in a single year, or structured as a multi-year grant over two or three years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Qualified organizations include those recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, government entities, or charitable programs. Organizations working in the field(s) of health and human services, education, the arts, the environment, youth services, social services, and any other charitable field are eligible to receive grants.

This grant program does not support capital projects, vehicles, furniture, ongoing operational or program delivery costs, consumable supplies, or food/beverages for meetings or events. The first year only of technology costs that will become “ongoing”, such as software licensing costs, may be considered. Reasonable travel costs may be considered as a part of one of these activities.

Salaries to carry out existing, new, or increased program delivery and operational activities are not eligible.

Eligible nonprofit organizations may only receive a Nonprofit Capacity Building Grant once every three calendar years.
