Award to a USA, Canada, or International individual who has made significant contributions to the planning and development of the built environment. Nominees may include, but are not limited to, public officials, developers, academics, writers, journalists, researchers, architects, and urban planners.

The Prize is designed to honor impactful innovation and leadership in real estate development practices and to inspire future developers and planners to achieve higher levels of excellence in addressing societal needs. The Prize is given annually to a living person, or that person and his or her organization, whose work meets the following three criteria:

- It is based on a strong and innovative vision for a more livable, sustainable and enduring urban community.
- It has been substantially implemented.
- It has had an exceptional impact on the immediate communities it serves and promises to significantly guide future land development practices.

Nominees are not limited to a specific discipline and may include developers, public officials, academics, writers, journalists, researchers, urban planners, and architects, among others.

Nominees may be located anywhere in the world.

The prize may be awarded to a group of individuals representing one body of work, and cannot be awarded posthumously.

Pre-Application Information:

Nominations for the 2019 Prize Laureate are due by 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Anyone can submit a nomination at any time and nominations are kept in strict confidence. Not all nominations received will be considered by the jury.

Please address nominations to the ULI J.C. Nichols Prize jury, and include a letter stating the reasons the jury should consider this individual for the award and any relevant support materials.
