Grants to Illinois nonprofit organizations and state-funded universities that serve senior citizens for capacity building initiatives. Funding is intended for activities that provide long-lasting improvement in the management, organizational capacity, and governance of recipient organizations.

RRF awards Organizational Capacity Building (OCB) Grants Grants to enable nonprofits to make fundamental improvements to key management systems and governance. These grants may be used for specific capacity building activities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic planning
  • Financial management
  • Communications and marketing
  • Resource development and fundraising
  • Human resources, including succession planning
  • Board development

RRF provides Standard OCB Grants to help nonprofits make long-term improvements in their management, governance, or organizational capacity.  Standard OCB funds generally support consulting, training fees, information technology, and other costs directly related to capacity building activities.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

RRF provides funding to nonprofit organizations that are tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; OR nonprofit organizations that are not required to have a 501(c)(3) designation, such as state-funded universities.

Standard OCB Grants are provided to nonprofit organizations that are:
- Located in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, or McHenry counties in Illinois
- In operation for at least three years and have annual revenue of at least $75,000
- Placing a high priority on providing services to people, ages 65 and older

RRF does not award grants to governmental agencies, except for state universities, area agencies on aging, and programs of the Veterans Administration.

Pre-Application Information:

RRF has three deadlines for optional Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) and three deadlines for grant applications:
- LOI Due: December 1, Proposals Due: February 1, Funding Decision: May
- LOI Due: March 15, Proposals Due: May 1, Funding Decision: August
- LOI Due: June 15, Proposals Due: August 1, Funding Decision: November
Proposals and LOIs will be accepted no later than 11:59 PM (CT) of the deadline day. If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, proposals and LOIs will be accepted as late as 5:00 PM (CT) the following workday.
