Grants of $2,000 to Illinois visual artists in eligible regions for career support and recognition of artistic excellence. Eligible applicants are exceptional artists that are at least 21 years of age, artists with a demonstrated need, artists that belong to an eligible minority group (ALAANA), artists with a disability, or self-taught or informally trained artists who are striving to make their art practice a primary vocation. This is an unrestricted grant. Applicants must reside in the City of Chicago.

For the SPARK Grant Program, the visual arts qualify, including: painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, installation, printmaking, fiber arts, photography, works on paper, film or video, new media, web-based imagery, sound (less in the tradition of music), and performance (in the context of the visual arts, less in the tradition of dance composition or choreography) Curators or exhibition makers may apply if their curatorial projects and an extension of or integral to their visual arts practice.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

This application is open to:
- Visual artists that identify as (one or more of the following):
- ALAANA (Asian, Latinx, African diaspora, Arab, Native)
- An artist with acute need (individual income less than $44,450/year, family income less than $63,200/year) facing urgent hardship
- An artist with a disability
- A self taught or informally trained artist: an artist who was not formally trained at an art school or degree-granting setting yet is committed to making their art practice a primary vocation

Ideal candidates show significant promise and dedication towards the advancement of their career as a practicing artist.

Applicants must be:
- A resident of the City of Chicago
- At least 21 years old
- NOT enrolled in a degree-granting program after June 2020 Selection Process

There will be an award ceremony at the Chicago Artists Coalition. CAC will be in touch with awardees afterwards with an evaluation to help us assess and grow the program
