Grants of up to $5,000 to Indiana and Illinois community, civic, and faith-based organizations, businesses, agencies, associations, and residents in eligible counties for projects to enhance local neighborhoods. The goal of the program is to create inclusive, safe, and vibrant neighborhoods. Eligible applicants are located in the UWWV service area: Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo counties in Indiana, and Clark County in Illinois.

The UWWV SN is seeking proposals from community organizations, service groups, and other community-based groups to conduct projects or programs involving community members and businesses to enhance the look and feel of their local neighborhoods. Projects may focus on any neighborhood in the UWWV service area. Projects can choose to address public safety, beautification projects, blight elimination or city-service improvements, or a combination of any of the four categories. Examples of these projects could be adding lighting in public areas, a neighborhood clean-up initiative, public landscaping projects, covered bus seating, public murals, park improvements, etc.  While it is not required, applicants are encouraged to consider collaborations with local government and/or businesses.

Through the Neighborhood Improvement Projects, UWWV SN expects to advance the following outcomes:

  • Projects will improve the look and feel of the neighborhood in which they are implemented via enhancements to: the safety of residents, eliminate blight and/or expand beautification efforts, and/or assist the expansion of city services
  • Resident & community involvement will expand neighbors’ “connectedness.”
  • Familiar and connected neighbors will lead to long-term stability and growth.
